THE BLACK LIVES MATTER PROTEST
JUNE 6, 2020
The Rochester Community Initiative hosted its first event, located at Mayo Park in downtown Rochester, Minnesota. A group of over 2000 protesters marched from MLK Park to Mayo Park in protest of the murder of George Floyd, police brutality, and the institutionalized racism that runs rampant through our nation’s society. Upon arrival at Mayo Park, The RCI activists led a discussion for community members to let them tell their stories of their experiences regarding the educational system, police brutality, and the racism that runs deep in America's history. The RCI created a call to action, and a desire for justice that lied dormant within the population of Rochester by giving them a voice, and providing services to register to vote. The powerful impact the protest created led to the full organization and creation of the RCI.
